This is Our Africa!

Tanzania Jan.14-22nd, 2017

Arrival Day Jan.14

We arrived at the Mt. Kilimanjaro airport where due to confusion about our arrival time, we were not met.  Although somewhat worried, we found our tour company and went to Planet Lodge in Arusha. At Planet Lodge,  Msangi Charema, the owner of Bright African Safaris came and visited with us and reassured us that all was fine and indeed it proved to be. We were about to embark on the trip of our lifetime.

Our guide Abu Munisi who proved to be the perfect guide for us and became our good friend joined us this morning. We left early the next morning and drove to Tarangire NP where we were joined by Msangi. We saw so many huge beautiful elephants so close it was almost unreal. Worth noting is that we saw 4 zebra outside of the park and Abu our guide stopped the land rover and told us this was a very good omen as they never saw zebra in that location.

Jan.20

Today we visited Ndutu Plain and Ngorongor Crater Rim Area! The Plain was filled with Hippos, Lions and much much more including a lot of dust. Strangely just like the other days this was to be a beautiful almost perfect day! A lion mating as we watched and shamelessly filmed was a strong highlight of this day!

Jan.21

Today we toured the Ngorongor Crater floor. We saw 2 lioness defend their babies against a male lion. We saw a rare Bat Eared Fox. We were privileged to see from almost a quarter of a mile away, a mother and baby black rino. Still the highlight of the day was a wilder beast giving birth. We filmed it all! We visited a Maasai village and enjoyed their dancing. At the end of the day we met Abu's lovely family.

We visited Msangi's family and took some beautiful flower pictures before we left for the airport. There were a few glitches such as the AC going out on the Land Rover, a 2 hour delay getting into one of the national parks because of a window sticker, and the last hotel had many steps when we had been clear that Linda had a great difficulty climbing stairs.  The Safari itself was beyond perfect in every way. In fact so was the whole trip. It was indeed the trip of a lifetime just be certain to take your Imodium with you!
